What will my student do at the MTC Academy?
Each day, students will participate in hands-on activities that explore various aspects of their chosen program.
2016 MTC Academy Program Choices:
_____ Carpentry - Hammer Time: Did you like “Bob the Builder” or “Handy Manny” when you were younger? This program introduces students to various hand tools and allows them to build small projects designed to help them understand the tools and machines of the trade, as well as carpentry skills you can use at home!
_____ Computer Animation - Video Game Design: Like video games? Take this introductory course on how to create your own 3D video games! We will be going over character creation, level design and animation. We will be building a custom game and you will see your handiwork by the end of the Academy. Your family and friends will be able to download and play your game as well. Be ready to bring your ideas to life! No prior experience is needed -- just basic computer knowledge.
_____ Computer Repair and Networking - All Keyed Up: We will be exploring the personal computer, including the basic parts and some cool projects you can do with PC's like hot wiring fans to run off USB connections. We’ll also practice some case modding, and, if time permits, some basic networking principles which would culminate into a very small Local Area Network game day.
_____ Cosmetology - Look Good, Feel Great: Would you like to learn how to style your own hair or your friend's hair the "professional" way? Learn how to give a professional shampoo and style to your "client"! You will also learn basic manicuring, pedicuring and facials! Get a jump start on your Cosmetology career by attending the MTC Academy!
_____ Criminal Justice/Forensics - Who Did It?: You will receive practical instruction in Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) and we will cover the basic topics of crime scene processing. This hands-on program will include latent fingerprint processing, as well as DNA search and collection, crime scene practical exercise, and much more.
_____ Fire/Rescue - Be a Hero: This is not an ordinary class....here you will not be a spectator...you will be in the action! You will learn how to put out a live fire with a fire extinguisher, practice search and rescue techniques, and learn how to tie several emergency knots. Students will also learn to talk on a walkie "Firefighter Style" and participate in hands-on practice for First Aid techniques. There’s even a “Get Wet" Day, where you will practice using proper techniques to put out simulated fires.
_____ Nursing: Welcome to Nursing 101 where students will learn the different types of nursing from Nursing Assistant, LPN, RN, to Nurse Educator. Activities will include: Glow germs and handwashing; how to take vital signs and help people in emergency situations; ways to care for your body and keeping it healthy; a close look at what happens in the operating room; and how nurses care for newborn babies, plus many other fun interactive activities. Come have fun with Nursing 101.

As we step back in time, you will get to know the founders of our country through the food they ate and the recipes they prepared.

We will be covering breeds, anatomy, diseases, and preventions for our common cats and dogs. Instruction also includes work involving horses, cows, and sheep.
