Students in the Dental Assistant program are formally introduced to the world of dentistry and learn the skills needed to perform tasks under the supervision of a dentist.
Massanutten Technical Center's program combines lecture and hands-on instruction in a relaxed, quality setting. Students are exposed to the latest laboratory equipment while receiving instruction from qualified assistants. Coursework will include: personal health and grooming, communication skills, applied psychology, ethics and jurisprudence, dental terminology, infection control, radiological procedures, maintaining office equipment and chairside procedures.
Beginning students who have a knowledge of biology, chemistry, health and office practices will have a better understanding of the course material.
In 2006, Dental Assistants held about 280,000 jobs in America. Almost all of these jobs were in dental offices where a small portion of these assistants worked for federal, state, and local government offices of physicians.
